Darakht-e Danesh organized an event called Translation Day on August 28, 2019, at Sufi Restaurant in Kabul in partnership with Mediothek Afghanistan and Saeed Publishers. The event was attended by H.E Mr. Syed Aqa Hussain Sancharaki, the Deputy Minister for Publications of the Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC), Mrs. Durani Jawed Waziri, Deputy Spokesperson to the Afghan President, officials of Ministry of Education, authors, translators, and publishers. The event was broadcast on Afghan television (Tolo, Khurshid, National TV, Shamshad, 1TV and others) and radio. Speakers at the event talked about the importance of translation in Afghanistan and emphasized the need for joint efforts to promote the culture of translation. MoIC is planning to establish a deputy directorate for Translation of Educational Resources where knowledge from Arabic, French, Spanish, English, and others will be translated into Dari and Pashto, Sancharki said.
Mr. Abdul Rahim Ahmad Parwani (DDL Content Manager) presented on the Darakht-e Danesh library, its role in translating books and educational resources into Afghan national and minority languages and being part of translation campaigns.
During the event, five storybooks were translated into Pashto, Dari, and Nooristani by the translators at the event. Appreciation certificates were provided to those translators and to organizations and publishers who serve in translation.
The event was closed with a request to the Afghanistan Government to name a day in the Afghan calendar by Translation Day and Mr. Sancharaki promised to convey this request to the Afghan Government.
