DDL Director to Be a Judge With Story Shares
Story Shares, a nonprofit dedicated to generating more diverse, culturally relevant stories for teens and adults who struggle with reading, has just launched their annual writing contest, which is the primary way in which they grow their library each year. The grand prize is focused on diversity, to incentivize new stories representing a range of voices and experiences. The contest will run April 2 - July 27. DDL founder Lauryn Oates will serve as a judge in this year's writing contest.

DDL in Teacher Training Colleges

By December, CW4WAfghan completed new installations of the Darakht-e Danesh Library (DDL) offline setup in three Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) - (Laghman, Takhar and Parwan) - and upgraded the setup in 8 TTCs (Kabul, Nangarhar, Khost, Kandahar, Herat, Bamyan, Herat and Faryab). As the project comes to completion, we are excited to report that in addition to the installations and upgrades in 11 provinces, we also  provided workshops on Open Educational Resources (OERs); educational materials; and instruction on how to use DDL for 40 female students in each of the TTCs.

Open Education Global

In March DDL was pleased to attend the Open Education Global conference in Cape Town, South Africa, through the support of ROER4D, under which the DDL has been supported to conduct an impact study in Afghanistan. We presented the findings of the study on the use of DDL in rural Afghanistan. We found that DDL improved lesson plans and helped initiate collaboration among students.

Sponsor the Library

The Darakht-e Danesh ('knowledge tree') Library is a collection of learning materials for Afghans, especially used by Afghan teachers. It includes a wide range of subjects, from Health Sciences to Linguistics to Special Education, in Dari, Pashto and English. But we need to grow it! We are looking for donors to sponsor new subject collections. Sponsorship covers the costs of sourcing material, translation, editing, graphic design, programming and promotion, and includes naming rights for the collection for the donor, if desired.
